Biography:
Combine
Steve Nichols' bangin' music with his charged-up energy
behind the decks and you've got a recipe for absolute
mayhem on the dancefloor. With extensive experience
across Australia and the UK this international superstar
is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after DJs
in the country.
His innovative sound crosses the hard dance spectrum,
from funk to trance to pumping hard house. With a
growing preference for hard, uplifting trance, his
sets are always played to perfection and guaranteed
to get the crowd stompin' and sweaty!Industry leaders
have described Steve's
performances as "... wicked trance, going into
harder territories before blending into lovely hard
house rhythms ... loved the build-up and the mixing
is superb ... could really take you on a dancefloor
journey...".
Steve
had his first taste of what the electronic world had
to offer in April '95. Eight mind-blowing hours spent
in a Brisbane club single-handedly changed the way
he looked at music and the dance scene. The desire
to be the person who created that energy and atmosphere
was too strong to resist ... and with the purchase
of turntables soon after, the adventure began! Steve's
DJing career quickly progressed from the bedroom to
house parties to clubs and raves. Then in 1998, a
six-month stint in the United States took him to a
whole new level. Developing and diversifying his talent,
Steve sent clubbers into a frenzy at venues like The
Hideaway in Winter Park, Colorado, and Bourbon Street
in Auburn, Alabama.
In
'99 came the move to London, which saw Steve secure
his place among the world's DJing elite. Scoring regular
guest slots at club nights such as 24/7, Emigration,
Fahrenhite, Fevah, Pickle, Provocation, Qwench, Random,
Solid Sunday, Turmoil, Twisted and XLR8, at venues
that have included Heaven and The Ministry of Sound,
Steve just kept getting bigger and better.
During this time, he regularly played alongside the
likes of Nick Sentience, BK, Phil Reynolds (including
a memorable back2back set), Steve Blake, Justine Bourne,
Steve Hill, Andy Farley, Stimulant DJs, James Lawson,
Tidy Boys, Paul Glazby, Lab 4 and Ed Real.
Steve
is now based in Australia but makes regular trips
back to the UK for events that include Frantic (Camden
Palace), Sunday School (Hanover Grand), Heat (Turnmills)
and Hard House Academy at Brixton Academy. Production
work is also on the agenda for the bi annual trips.
Since arriving back in Australia Steve has secured
residencies at Frantic Sydney, Progress Sydney (monthly)
and Altitude Melbourne. Coupled with this Steve has
headlined nights for Hard Kandy, BassStation, Frantic
Melbourne, Bubble, System 6 (Brisbane & Adelaide),
Ultraworld 20, The Gathering (NZ), Fevah (NZ) and
many more.
With
seven years experience firing up clubbers across the
globe, Steve has started utilising this knowledge
in the production of his own music. To date he has
completed a number of tracks in collaboration with
KeLSTa, Ali Wilson, James Lawson & Steve Hill
(as NHL Project out now on Tripoli Trax), Brad Thatcher
and Yoshi.
Reviews:
"
Steve Nichols stepped up
next taking the crowd to another level and, apart
from a slight technical hitch that was sorted swiftly
by the boys on stage, played another phat set indicative
of a fine international..." - Ultraworld 20 Adelaide

Steve
Nichols (Frantic) was not about to let anyone go just
yet. Like the pied piper of Hamelin, he lead us on
in terms that can only be understood by those that
were captured by the mysterious melodies
one
after the other. You know when a DJ has been a successful
closer when the dance floor still seems lost amongst
the shuffling feet! And lost they were in more ways
than one! Definitely a great way to follow Phil and
an even better way to say good night

Not
to put pressure on the man, but every time I have
seen Steve Nichols play a set, it has been awesome,
and this night was noooo different! A nice hard trancey
set that pumped from beginning to end, with just enough
R & R in between. And Just when you thought he
might let up and give you a breather, out of the electronic
depths comes a build up that brings you right back
to where you started and keeps you pedalling along
that windy road to
wherever it is that Steve
was taking you

"
I
couldn't help but jump straight onto the dance floor
as Steve played some favourites and some fantastic
new ones that wouldn't let my legs stop jumping. Steve's
set was definitely a perfect infectious foreplay to
K90, and a regrettable farewell. Steve will be missed,
not only by me, but by the legion of fans that he
has managed to triumphantly transfix in such a short
time, as he heads over to London for a couple of months
may
the force be with you Steve and come back soon!!"

Steve
Nichols fucking rocks! Homegrown world class talent,
he's played just about everywhere good hard dance
is played and cut it with the best. And now he lives
here in Melbourne. How good is that? Tonight Nichols
has a hard job to do: He started with the crowd in
a sweaty frenzy and had to deliver them up to Sentience
in the same state. What to do? Go hard my son! And
so he did, ripping out some absolutely banging tracks
from all corners of the genre. Kicking off (or thereabouts)
with "Devastation" (Ali Williams & Matt
Smallwood), slipping in Carl Nicholson & James
Lawson's "Times Like These", he turns it
up notch by notch but continues with the trancey flavour
that has dominated the night. Lots of uplift to keep
the crowd pumped, and a bit of funk to boot. Nichols
looks like he's having as much of a good time as Hill
did, and why not? The crowd's just going nuts. An
excellent set by Nichols fer sure, which delivered
us to Sentience just the way the headmaster ordered
